How Not To Suck at Internet Marketing

Share:

This blog post has been a long, long time coming. Let’s just say I have been busy with everything that goes into a large scale product launch including, product creation, supporting materials such as videos, members area, support of new members (help desk and forum) and lots more.

For the last ten months I have been focused on “Going Big” and if you want internet marketing success, if you want to be able to generate revue online, then this blog post is vital information that you must understand.

Internet Marketing Smoke Job

Internet Marketing Smoke Job

If you screw this up, you will fail, mark my words.

If you try to cheat the system, again, you will fail.

If you think your black hat, super spinner, auto posting, build ten thousands links in a snap is the solution allowing you to lie on the coach, eat potato chips and watch reruns of Hogan’s Heroes as your $37 wonder software builds you empire …..

Then friend, put the hookah pipe down and wake up ….you too are going to fail miserably.

I mean really hard and it’s going to piss you off.

All that time and energy that you sink into crap solutions design to alleviate your unwillingness to create anything of value online.

Internet Marketing Success Is Based on These Principles:

  • Taking Action (Again, & Again)
  • Focus
  • Prioritizing Your Efforts
  • Following Through
  • Producing “Quality” Tangible Assets (Stuff People Like)
  • Accepting Nothing Less Than Success
  • Believing That… Not Only Can It Be Done – But That YOU Can Do It

I am guessing by now that I am beginning to piss off a few people, however this needs to be said and If this blog post can help a small percentage of people, ultimately steering them in the correct “your now able to make money – who thunk it” then I have done what I have set out to do years ago.

1. Help People To Succeed Online

2. Have A Ton of Fun Along The Way

3. Make a Shit Ton of Money

These three items above have been my motivating factors for years now, nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing someone succeed online and being able to make money online from home (anchor text) while helping others. This is powerful stuff and very rewarding and I truly love what I do, most day’s anyway.

“But gosh Brian …. That seams like work”.

I get this all the time, it’s stupid … really.

People mention that my stuff seams hard, that it takes effort and they wonder “is it worth it”.

Do you want to know what is hard?

Hard is spending time with stuff that is based on pipe dreams, stuff that is too good to be true, hard is spending your precious time with stuff that produces crap, that’s the key right there.

If the method your spending time with is kind of goofy and you know it, if your latest and greatest wonder product produces crap then finding success is going to be like getting blood from a rock.

Example:

If you post a ton of crap articles to your site, you will fail.

If you generate a ton of crap links, it will not help your rankings (long term) and may even hurt you site.

If you generate stupid videos, videos that take you less than a minute to produce, video’s that offer no real value, then nobody will care and you won’t get the results that your after.

You will fail and hard.

And what sucks is that each and everyday I see the latest and greatest product that “guarantee” success, but in fact most of these produces shit content that is bound to fail. Thus, anyone using this stuff is also bound to fail and the cycle starts a new as folks wait for the next magic bullet email, please pass the pixie dust ….

It makes me want to smack my head against the wall.

On this very blog I have shared lots and lots of real business building tips and strategies, most of which are really not that hard to implement.

Actual stuff that I use to drive traffic and make money (proof below), stuff like video marketing (put yourself on camera – I dare you) and post to youtube, it works.

Use my link building tactic “let’s get blog rolled” method and it will help you get results, build quality content using my new plugin Push Button SEO, which by the way, does not automate your content.

Rather, it systematizes my marketing methods, improving your content, link structure and more. The plugin helps people create great content (software tools and training videos) and ensures that the content is optimized for solid Google rankings. However, I tell my members that they need to apply them-self’s and that the plugin is not magic bullet, I like to think of it as the “path of least resistance”.

Earnings From A YouTube Video I Posted About Three Years Ago …
(notice the date, April 15th, 2012)

This stuff get’s results, it has gotten results for years and it continues to work not only for me, but for many who have followed my lead, people like Aidan Booth who found my Commission Ritual Inner Circle and quickly began increasing his earnings, people like Romy, David, Mario, Danny and many others.

Sure, we all struggle from time to time, as they say, nothing worth while in life is easy. However, once you begin to add value to the web, once you start to “go big” it is much easier to start seeing some results.

How To Guaranteed Your Success Online

Several day’s ago, a member on my internet marketing forum and community posted a question asking if I could guarantee his success if he joined my soon to launch coaching program:

“but I want to know up front and right away that when I do what you say to do, I will become financially free and independent within the year”

I replied that no real coach or mentor can guarantee these types of results, I mean how can I possibly guarantee “financial freedom” that is crazy talk and anyone that is willing to offer such a guarantee is a snake oil salesmen.

What I did and do promise is that I teach real tactics and strategies that anyone (regardless of race, religion, creed, knowledge or lack their of) can use to boost their current position and build a foundation. I teach people how to build an online asset that can be leveraged in the future, I teach people:

  • How to drive traffic
  • How to convert that traffic into earnings

So just how do you ensure that your adding value to the web and building online assets that will be around for awhile?

Quality, it’s that simple.

In 2012, quality wins the day, everyday.

Quality content that matters, quality content that people like. Quality links pointing to your site, quality social signals signifying to Google that people generally like your site.

If you focus on quality you will do well, this is the entire focus around going big.

Think about creating one great website, or one great video channel on youtube, focus on creating one great facebook page and go big.

This post is listed under my category for going big and in the coming days and weeks I will share my thoughts on how anyone with the desire can go big and how it can be done regardless of available funds or start up capital.

All that is needed is desire.

So how do you know which new products can help you succeed online? The asnwer is very simple, simply ask yourself. Does this product produce quality?

If the answer is no, then why spend your precious time with it?

In the coming day’s I will be kicking off round two of 300 Internet Marketers, I will be guiding and mentoring less than 300 students and helping them create quality assets. The program was a huge success last year and many members went on to create sites that drive traffic and make money.

If your ready to get real, if you want to “go big” I would encourage you to have a look at my 300 internet marketers program.

[flexsig]

P.S.

This is important stuff, too many people are chasing the wrong thing online, please help spread the word by sharing this post on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter (share box below).

Thanks …

Absolutely. There is no difference between starting a business out in the “real” world or in cyberspace. There is NO get rich quick, and there is NO way around work. I’m currently attempting a new project that deals with UFOs. I know tat in time I will rank for my top target keywords and have a HUGE traffic flow. How do I know this? I look at my competition. What do I see? The same blog posts on 10 different blogs. Many times they don’t even take the time to change any of the text in the slightest. Not me. Not if I want to win. If I want to win, not only do I need to post other people’s videos, I need to make good videos of my own. I need write – or pay to have written – QUALITY articles about famous UFO cases. I have to post every day, I have to track and monitor, I have to run this like a business, not a hobby. I love 4/20, but I have to do my work first. Many people ask, “how do I start?” My answer is, you have to spend money on training. Why this is so surprising to people I just don’t understand. If you want to be or do anything, you have to learn how to do it! Nothing is any different about Internet marketing. You have to spend money to make money – quality wins the day. Thanks Brian for your honesty.

Good post. It echos what I’ve been telling people for years. This is a business and it must be treated that way. That means it takes work. There is no piece of software that’s going to make you rich overnight. Why people still fall for that crap is beyond me, but they do.

I’ve got a page at http://www.ibcynical.com/blog/ that talks about building authority sites and it echos a lot of the things you’ve said here. There really is no quick method to making money on the net.

Love it… exactly what people need to hear. Creating a true online asset is the key and not focusing on trying to understand every trick to drive traffic in my opinion; honing in on a true value with a solid USP is the key to success online.

This of course takes time and blood, sweat, and tears…

it goes without saying (well, at least for people with half a brain or more) that ACTION is required to achieve what you want, and having a hard drive full of stuff, from 5-figure courses to $7 crap wso’s, with no action applied, won’t even warrant you bragging rights.  but what most also don’t understand, even if they take action, is that it also requires TIME, where it’s not going to happen overnight or even by the end of next week. lastly, people want a real BLUEPRINT to follow – not cut/paste thing but a blueprint that will tell them what needs to be done in what order and timeframe. Brian understands this, and i am very impressed with PBSEO and would think Brian’s other products would carry the same level of quality.

Actually, my latest plugin does not work without a user taking their time to create a post, it is simply a tool that “systemizes” my methods and tactics.

      Nothing more.

It does not auto post, or auto build links or any of that stuff.

My partner and I worked on the plugin over a 11 month period to create a system that made creating unique (users have to add their own content) easier. I like to think of it as a path of least resistance.

I don’t expect you to believe or agree with me, however you did post a comment and I wanted to reply.

Baling Hay is hard work.  Internet marketing is not.

This brings me to something I added to my forum signature recently -a quote attributed to Thomas Edison:
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

Thanks for putting yourself out there.  As someone on the front line.  it may be with you as it was with the pioneers who got the most land, they also took the most arrows.

What about autocashcontent? you made a fortune off of that easy push button system promising financial freedom i am sure. Not trying to bash you to hard here brian, just saying. I am getting sick of everybody back pedaling on what they said previously. Most every IMer is a hypocrite, like you wouldn’t except commissions from these dime a dozen automatic money producing softwares or wso’s that make you so angry. And if you wouldn’t today doesn’t mean that you haven’t in the past.

I understand you are now teaching long lasting tactics. Peace

      Hey Bla .. Bla .. Bla ..

Yep, I said that, did that and promoted that. It worked, it was also years ago and online things change at break neck speed. I will also mention that I personally feel many people did not grasp the whole ACC system for what it was.

I shared many methods for launch sites in an automated way and at the time, I had personally launched hundreds of sites that were created using high quality outsourced content.

Not everything in the course was use a few plugins to generate content.

However, as mentioned, I think the most important element here is that I move with the tide and any successful marketer does just that. Over the last few years I have focused on and taught quality.

      Thanks for your comment …

@blahtothe3rdpower Gotta admit, I am in agreement with you here. Not so much aimed at Brian since I am new to his mailing list.

But there are so many of the big and not-so-big internet marketers who used to pedal a bunch of crap who are now trying to appeal to people in the internet  marketing and other industries by bad-talking the crappy methods, techniques, products, and services that they used to promote.

I think of it as the nature of the “car salesman” type. You work what works until it doesn’t, then you work the new thing. Don’t approve of it myself. Guarding myself and my friends and family and others against the crap online has strengthened my bull-crap sensor.

I really wish more people would not be so impatient and so willing to believe in what they  see, read, and hear online, especially in the internet marketing industry. But you can’t make a horse  drink…

        Hey Guys,

I get it, I recomended some of that stuff years ago. However, we all grow, we all improve and with it in the end that stuff was working. Lots and lots of people wanted to know “the how” and the “why”.

And, as mentioned, when things change and lets people know where I am heading and what strategies I am using.

I will also mention that ACC was a big course and covered lots of ways to automate an online business.

It’s all good, I stand for my past and in general know that I have helped out plenty of folks online. That is what drives me, I don’t expect everyone to cheer in my corner and they are welcome to their say.

    Hey Brian,
I appreciate your post.  Not just for what it says about IM but also for what it says about you as a person.
You’re growing and learning with the rest of us.
You’re willing to share what is currently working to help others.
You don’t have a crystal ball to predict the future of how the internet is going to change and whether something will continue to work indefinitely.
You’re strong enough to admit mistakes.
Those add up to qualities of someone I’m willing to listen too.
Thanks for the email alerting me to this post.

Ding … Ding … Ding … We got a winner folks.

That’s it right there, anything in life worth doing is a process and when you really give it your best shot you learn, grow and get better. I never promised anyone easy riches ever, I just don’t go there.

However, I have promised to share ideas and strategies that’s based on the stuff I actually do online some have succeed, some have had set backs and some are jaded and mad about it.

      However, that’s life.

If enough people tell me they are getting results, then I will continue.

To be honest, I would continue at any rate.

I like internet marketing, I find it challenging and exciting.

@Brian G. Johnson Oh the original post doesn’t make this obvious but the comments do.  How many other successful marketing is going to spend most of the day personally responding to comments on a blog post?
I don’t know about every post you make but this one you have.
I noticed before I left my comment that you had responded to most comments within minutes.  Now several hours later you continue the pattern.
That makes me think that you see people as important and as individuals.

Hey Brian, new to the blog as of today and just bought PushButtonSEO last week. I am going to give you some feedback both good and bad about several products – the first one I purchased was Rank and Pillage back in Jan. I bought the program because your name was attached to it. I did a lot of research about internet marketing individuals and what each course offered. I was very disappointed to find out that Aidan was the one giving the course (not that there is anything wrong with Aidan, I am sure he is knowledgeable), but not you and that really troubled me because i had watched “you” on video. I did not complete that course and got a refund, it was a matter of trust for me as I had built trust through your words.

Then I received an email for PushButtonSEO and I instantly liked what I saw, it was a great automated system that hit the nail on the head with SEO optimization, I am totally thrilled to date with the information being provided and the course layout. I am actually considering the coaching program since I am so new at this and really don’t have TIME to waste (like any of us do, except the young who think they will live forever lol). I am hoping the coaching program will answer many of the questions that I still have about how to make money online, what is the best vehicle for me and what would be most satisfying in the long run. Will the coaching program provide that one-on-one repore?

And I agree with the main theme of your blog post, unless you win the lottery there is nothing good that comes along without hard work.

      Hey John,

I understand your feelings about Rank and Pillage, lots of people want the guy in the marketing videos to be in the product itself.

At the same time, Aidan was and is my most successful student and after three years knowing Aidan we decided to do a product together. This allowed me to show him the ropes and introduce him to a wider group of marketers.

However, I do understand your point and it’s well taken.

As for Push Button SEO, I am glad you like the plugin itself.

I am very proud of Push Button SEO, it systematizes my marketing strategies in a way that was impossible without a plugin or software and the training that is paired with the software helps to ensure users are able to get the most out of the plugin and strategies.

Have you had a chance to go through the training materials that are included with Push Button SEO?

      Thanks for your comment John…

I do have a coaching program launching in a matter of days. If I opened up “phone” time with Brian, I those folks would be first inline.

However, I would have to charge a hefty fee.

For this reason I have always enjoyed group coaching.

This way we all get together via online webinar “no pitch” and
I walk students through course materials.

At the end of the webinar I open things up for questions.

Thoughts?

    Brian,
I followed you for a few years now and of course I do not agree with everything you write. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. But I do know that you know what you are talking about and yes I will join the 300 this time, I’ve tried far too long to go it all alone. For all the naysayers here let’s remember that the only thing in life constant is change. And big brother G changes almost daily.  Quality, non duplicated websites is the only way to go. Soon enough the people will force Google to create an algo which does place quality, authority sites on the first page else Google will go by the waysite ala alta vista and yahoo. For those who doubt that Google is dancing again and hard go and read this post by Jonathan Leger: http://jlforums.com/search-engine-optimization/major-google-update-%28april-24th%29/.
There are not many IM people (read gurus) that I trust but the five who emailed me today all said the same. For a week or two do not change your sites, we first need to see what the real fallout will be.

Also, I just published a video where I talk about attempting to piecemeal information together… I did that for years. The fist step to making money online – is to spend a little money on some quality coaching. Or have the ones available been modified already for 2012 and the recent Google Panda update?thank you

    Hi Brian,

You have a good reputation so I hope that my questions are not  too hard on you. You talk about the 3 pillars in your 300 internet marketing course promo page. The 3 pillars that you talk about, 2 of them concern me. The list & your own product. Most bad guys in this IM business will build a list of people that are legitimately trying to make some money on the internet and keep selling them over and over some “product” that is either their own or someones else’s JV product. Forgive for asking but what makes your course different aside from the learning how to earn money as an affiliate?  After reading the latest on the “gurus” on The Salty Droid Site where they are basically laughing at all of us while banking fortunes, I am really hesitant to buy anything. Hope I’m not offending you as I didn’t mean to.

      Hey Babyzz,

It is possible to build a list in many, many niche markets and I have several outside of internet marketing. I see no problem with building an email list and offering advice and tips when people are seek that very thing out.

The course focus is about 65% site creation and promotion methods as that is the vehicle that can actually build a list and make affiliate sales and if you are inclined …

You can then build your own product.

In life you will find good and bad, if you fly over New York’s Central Park it will look beautiful, however that does not mean there are not drug dealers on nearby streets.

I focus on the positive things, sure I sell things and sure not everyone is going to like what I offer. However, I stand by what I offer and I think anyone can do the same online.

I’ve seen your webinars, videos, I have the PushButton SEO plugin (which I love), and have become a fan of your work (I only follow a handful of IMers. So many are just blah blah blah + hype and delete their emails without even reading them). You have shared with your followers what you have found has worked over the years and people appreciate that.

Brian, could you differentiate between the coaching thing you emailed about out yesterday which I think was the 300 IM thing and the coaching program you will be offering this summer, which I  think is more focused on PBSEO? Is the former a superset of the latter? For someone who really wants to create a quit-my-current-job-with-substantial-income not-chained-to-my-computer-24×7 thing, what is realistic in terms of both timing and effort? (Not concerned about the latter, more concerned about the former….)

What you are saying is so true about a lot of people looking for quick fix.  But the sad fact of the matter is – by the time most people do waste their time on practices that don’t work long term and are ultimately punished by the big search engines because of these practices, they may as well have engaged in proper, sustainable seo practices.

Paul and I think it’s great to deal with real people that respond and engage with their community.  We look forward to being one of your success stories and being part of your community long term.

    Hi Brian,
Damm you mean that $4.99 WSO isn’t going to do everything for me ; –  (

To paraphrase two of my hero’s
    A) Tommy Hopkins – Reward always follows effort – Check the dictionary if you don’t believe me.
    B) Gary Player – Its amazing the more I practice EVERY DAY the luckier I get at winning tournaments.

I have got so tired of being sold promises AKA Crap by all the gurus that I have decided no more shiny new toys back to basics –  Look at three of my websites rework the content getting rid of the rubbish. Then start adding quality content one post per day. Take the post  rework it twice  and post to two article directory.   Take the tortoise approach and see what happens.

Regarding Google and their search algorithm –  What not a lot of people know is the actually have 17 that they change every 29.2387 minutes. ( OK I made that up but as far as trying to game the big G it think it as valid as anything I have heard from the gurus-  BTW Definition of a Guru – Goo = pile of muck  – Roo Slang for a kangaroo so    Guru – Kangaroo dung
