Quality Backlinks (Guest Post by Catherine Kozar)

Those that have achieved success in life have the ability to make good decisions, create a plan of action and follow through creating tangible assets for themselves, Catherine Kozar is one of those very people. In the spring of 2011 Catherine joined my 300 Internet Marketers coaching program and got busy, early on in the training materials I mentioned that all members should create a site on internet marketing, this way they would be able to journal their progress and at the same time would be creating an asset in the internet marketing space.

Fast forward nine months or so into the program and I began to notice some of the amazing website filled with quality information and content that was web worthy, one site in particular AffiliateMarketersCollege.com (launched by Catherine) was well put together, offered tremendous content and is now well on it’s way. I asked Catherine to share some of what she learned while in my coaching program, this is her guest blog post.

Around 10 months ago, a very important message arrived in my email inbox. This was an invitation to join the 300 marketers group lead by recognized internet marketer, Brian Johnson. Joining and participating in this membership would prove to be one of the most fulfilling experiences I have had online. The course offered excellent training for online marketers, but excelled even further with content via the webinars and member’s forum.

I would highly recommend joining a forum because it will boost your online marketing success substantially. The reason for this is the added support you receive from other knowledgeable members, as well as being part of a community of like minded people. The internet can be a lonely place, so this kind of support for marketing success is not only beneficial, but crucial! Why Do We Need Quality Backlinks?

Quality Incoming Backlinks

Proven SEO Formula: 1) Content 2) Links 3) Time

We need quality backlinks to get better rankings in the search engines. This is one of the crucial elements of SEO and how Google and the other search engines will determine the value of your web page and website. This process should not be overlooked if you want your website to stand the test of time and grow into a successful online business.

So what is a backlink? It can also be called an inbound link. When our text link appears somewhere else on the internet, it is known as a backlink as it points back to our site. An example of this is when we add our site’s link when blog commenting, writing articles, or posting on YouTube for example.

You may have also heard of reciprocal links. Traditionally many websites would set up a page dedicated to the reciprocal link exchange method. They would then provide instructions:

1) Link to my site.

2) Email me here.

3) I will link to your site.

Google began to easily detect this unnatural exchanging of links and they in effect would
remove the pagerank from these type of posts / pages. Many
times they would not even be indexed!

Thus, it is imperative to work smarter today and focus on quality content that attracts links naturally.

Therefore this method was not powerful like one way backlinks, but rather just a swapping of links. Obviously a one way text link (or non-reciprocal link) is much more difficult to obtain than a reciprocal link, and this is where the value is. Google understands you must have top quality content if someone is willing to link to your site without getting any benefit back.

Why are backlinks so important?

Quality backlinks are important in the eyes of search the engines because this type of text link naturally appears less self serving. In other words, someone else online values your website enough to mention it and link to it. Google, Bing, Yahoo and others see this as a real vote of confidence for your site! This is also another reason why the social media likes are very helpful. Someone in effect just voted for you! As you can see, these back links are highly valuable to your online business because the more one way links you have, you are more likely to get improved search engine rankings. Every online businesses goal!

How to get quality backlinks.

Quality backlinks differ from any other link in that they are highly relevant to your website niche. For example if you have a dog training website, then your quality backlinks will come from other sites specifically within that niche market. Other strategies can include the following –

  • Comment on other blogs, make sure to leave connect that adds value to the discussion.
  • Leverage social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and engage people who are already actively discussing topics within your niche market.
  • Submit your site to top level online directories such as the Yahoo Directory or DMOZ.
  • Submit articles to the top article sites.
  • Implement Brian’s blog roll strategy.
  • Relevance, relevance, relevance!

Quality backlinks are time consuming but then all good things come at a price. Saying that, the way Google pagerank works is fairer to everyone in the long run – no shortcuts and no cheating.

Thanks for the article – I am on the road to getting quality links

Hiya! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly?
My website looks weird when browsing from my iphone4.
I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able
to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share.
    Many thanks!
